Typical Installation

Now that you understand the difference between Primary and Secondary controls, here is what a typical installation looks like in a lowered floor minivan for a wheelchair driver.

The Chassis typically is mounted up front in the vehicle next to the passenger seat, and does not inhibit wheelchair maneuvering into the drivers area.

The Servomotors are located under the drivers dash area and connect mechanically to the steering column and the gas/brake pedals. These servomotors can be “disengaged” to allow operation of the vehicle utilizing the factory controls in less than 10-seconds, and do not interfere with the driver.

The specially designed Mounting Systems are required for all AEVIT 2.0® Input devices and VGA Displays. They feature shock ball mounting with articulating arms that allow all controls to be positioned perfectly for each driver. They are available in door and floor mounting designs.

INPUT Devices

AEVIT 2.0® Input devices feature dust, moisture, and impact resistant housings to protect against the rigors of typical vehicle operation. They also feature extremely robust internal mechanics developed by EMC for this market over 15-years ago, that have survived the test of time. Sealed ball bearings, and precision machined parts are all factors leading to many years of trouble free service.

  • Each Input Device contains three-redundant feedback encoders for AEVIT 2.0® computers to track their exact position in relation to your inputs.
  • The “L-Series” input device for gas/brake control, features internal adjustable dampeners to allow for independent adjustment of mechanical “forced-feedback” to the driver.
  • The “W-Series” input device for steering control, features a friction collar for ultra-smooth inputs, and an internal clutched endstop to provide protection for the electronics inside.

CHASSIS Design

If “Form truly follows Function”, the AEVIT 2.0® Chassis is a true work of art. Starting with a nearly indestructible roto-molded cover, the Chassis measures only 12″L x 7″W x 12″H saving valuable floor space in the vehicle.

The main purpose of the Chassis is not only to house the primary control modules, but also allow for quick removal of any module for service. The Chassis also serves as the connection point for Evaluation controls, and contains a built-in “Flash Drive” for easy software updates and system historical data downloads for service personnel.

Servomotors

The AEVIT 2.0® electric Servomotors have proven their robust design and ultra-reliability and safety records over millions of hours and miles of operation during the past 20-years. There are no equals!

The secret to this unprecedented record is the “dual wound” redundancy that is exclusive to the AEVIT® electric servomotors. What does this mean?…….it basically is two electric motors in one housing! This eliminates the need for separate backup motors and the costly mechanical connections to disable one from the other in the unlikely event one fails. The AEVIT® servomotors are always online ready for work and the system checks both windings constantly and would inform you if one was not working correctly.
